Work set to begin on Burnley Creek Bridge
$786,000 project starts Aug. 6, will take 10 weeks to complete
Northumberland County will soon start work to restore the single-span Burnley Creek Bridge on County Road 25.
Work on the bridge, originally built in 1959, will replace the existing concrete handrails and curbs, replace the guardrails, waterproof and refurbish the bridge deck and restore embankments with rock protection to prevent erosion.
During construction the bridge will be closed to traffic and a detour will be in place via Old Hastings Road and County Road 29. The speed limit on Old Hastings Road will be reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.
"The rehabilitation of Burnley Creek Bridge will help maintain community connectivity for the local road network in Warkworth," says County Director of Public Works Denise Marshall. "The bridge and embankment rehabilitation will ensure both safety and historical continuity for the Warkworth community for decades to come."
The county had budgeted $800,000 for the project but it came in slightly under at $786,480.90, including HST.
Town says repairs on Trent Island water lines must wait until next year
Trent Hills has acknowledged that water lines on Tanner Road and Parkview Blvd. must be repaired but says there is no money in the budget for this year.
Mayor Bob Crate recently told residents: “There are no funds in the budget to do the replacement this year and the project will be a priority for 2025.”
Crate said he hopes there will be infrastructure funding from other levels of government to help with the cost.
The water pipes have been failing many years earlier than expected, in part because they appear to be corroded.
