As a long time resident of Campbellford and a member of the over eighty club I have seen the loss of the Health Unit Office, three court days a month, the down grading of the OPP Det. In 1993 there was a staff of twenty four. There was a Det. Commander here. Is this progress or just operations going to bigger communities. Don,t see any advantage of operations going to Cobourg and Port Hope. Vote no Trent Hills.
I find this interesting as it is a perfect example of how a voting structure and democracy works: mob rule of the majority over the minority. Its a legal structure where a segment can force their will onto others. And if one decides not to fall into line? The "rules" can be enforced through punishment - either fiscal, economic, or through means such as municipal services or taxation.
I have to agree with Deputy Mayor Metcalfe - we would definitely be swept under the rug. It's bad enough to see how the 3 parts of Trent Hills have disparaging "benefits" of being amalgamated - It frightens me to think what would happen if we were to become absorbed into an even larger "amalgamation" - I vote "HELL NO"
Well, that mayor sounds like someone I know… I’m sorry that you had to write this story, but happy that you did. 🗞️
Yes, there is a definite tone to his ideas. Glad you liked it. Nice to hear from you after all these years. I'm enjoying your writing too.

We love to pick our slave masters, don't we?

This reeks of non-competition. See where that got us in telecommunications - the highest phone rates in the world.
