Warkworth Place long-term care centre has an outbreak of Covid-19, says the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Health Unit.
The health unit said the outbreak was identified on June 15. It was the third community outbreak in Northumberland County this month. There were two earlier in the month at group homes in Port Hope. They were each declared over after about a week.
Warkworth Place, owned by Southbridge Care Homes, has 60 licensed beds and 133 people on its waiting list, says the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Due to the outbreak, the home is limiting visits to residents.
It’s not as easy to get information on Covid-19 as it used to be since the province has largely stopped tracking and reporting the disease, but a social media account that collates reports from all public health units shows that there are currently outbreaks at hospitals in Belleville, Trenton, and Lakeridge in Oshawa and at several long-term care homes in Oshawa and Belleville, as well as elsewhere across the province.
I am certainly hearing a lot anecdotal reports from friends who say they have recently had Covid-19. Since most of us have had several vaccinations, or cases of Covid, the disease has not been as serious, but it certainly can be in a long-term care setting.
