Sunny Life plans Church St. apartment building
Public hearing on Oct. 1 for any comments or questions
Sunny Life Properties Inc. wants to sever a 1.2-hectare (2.96-acre) parcel of land on Church Street and build a three-storey, four-level apartment building with 78 to 80 units to be called Ferris Heights Residences.
The parcel would also have to be rezoned to allow the building. It would be 15-metres tall, above the 12.5-metre limit, but planning staff have the power to allow that exception.
The zoning for the retained portion, which is about 3.91 hectares (9.66 acres) will remain the Development (D) and Residential Type 1 (R1) Zones. The retained land is subject to draft approval of granted in 2016 and will be rezoned to permit low-to-medium density residential development in the future.
You can see the maps and illustrations on the municipality’s website here.
There will be a couple of other severances and rezonings considered at the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
Some of my other stories
In case you are wondering why there have been some gaps in writing stories about Trent Hills the past couple of months, I thought you might be interested in links to a couple of recent stories that I have done.
But if you assumed that the gaps were because the weather has been great and I have been off paddling and swimming, that would be correct too.
I have a short story in the Fall edition of Watershed magazine. It’s about the Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre, which is a Northumberland County initiative located just east of the Big Apple. It’s a fascinating place to tour.
FYI, a while back I did a story for Watershed about the sales barn at Hoard’s Station. It’s still for sale, if you’re looking for a career change.
And for a change of pace, there is this story that I posted on Medium. It’s about the failed efforts by the Ford government to introduce a digital ID program in Ontario. I started on this story because it followed from one I had done for a credit union magazine. I kept bugging the government for comment and eventually filed an access to information request, but as I expected I only learned that they really don’t want to talk about it.
Should be ok unless Sunny Life wants the Municipality to pay for roads and utilities. The rate payers don,t need another Nappan Island development.
Keep that pressure on our "officials". Good work Art.
