Sadie Mees is still in an Israeli prison, but her family hopes she will be set free on Sunday.
Mayor Bob Crate, who is Sadie’s grandfather, said some other members of a Freedom Flotilla that was stopped trying on Wednesday, Oct. 8 to get aid to Gaza have been released.
“They had to sign a document admitting they did something wrong and Sadie will never do that,” he said in an interview. “We think that means they will hold her for another 72 hours and then set her free.”
Sadie was one of six Canadians taken off the ships that were trying to reach Gaza.
“We’re very proud that she’s standing up for what she believes,” Crate said.
Kira Mees, Sadie’s mother, said: “They are eligible for deportation as of Sunday. Stressful times to say the least.”
In the event she was stopped, Katie had prepared a video that was posted on Facebook asking her friends to push for her release. She was also in another video that shows the six Canadians who were onboard the Conscience when it was stopped.
The federal government has said it has consular staff working to secure the release of the Canadians.
Pete Fisher has a lengthy interview with Kira that is posted on YouTube.
