We did it. The Ranney Gorge Run was a great success on Sunday.
About 470 people took part in the various walks and runs, raising about $24,000 for the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation.
And we did our part. I ran, well sorta, quite a lot of walking along the route, but I did enjoy touring Ferris Park. The section coming out of the park and across the Ranney Gorge Bridge was stunning as the sun was out and the roaring water was filled with white foam created by the falls.
I wish I’d had my phone to take a picture, but at that point, about the nine-kilometre mark, I was mostly focused on trying to keep up with the young woman who was about 20 metres ahead of me.
And you also did your part, by helping raise money. Thanks to you I raised $651. 78, which surprisingly was the top amount gathered by an individual.
There were lots of local volunteers along the route and helping out at the start. A special thanks should go to the Ontario Parks staff who had clearly been busy clearing trees and branches off the roadways after the ice storm.
I hope to run it again next year and offer you the chance to support the hospital.
The event included 1, 5, and 10.55 kilometres walks and runs that attracted families, kids in strollers, and people who strolled. In case you’re wondering, 10.55 is a quarter of a 42.2 kilometre marathon, so three more loops of the park and I could have run a full marathon. Or not.

Campbellford Farmers’ Market opens
The market opened on Saturday morning with a lot of new vendors and interesting things for sale. The local produce will be coming soon.
Spreading fibre on rural roads
I’ve written several times about the work that’s under way to install fibre optic lines that will offer rural residents across Trent Hills fast and reliable internet service. So, I thought I should show you a couple of photos that I shot while I was out on a bike ride last week of the crews in action on Burnbrae Road.
You can read all Trent Hills News stories anytime on the website.
Art, Congratulations on completing the run and being top individual earner!
