Painters both good and bad are busy
Mural adds to downtown look, while graffiti forced a quick cleanup
There’s been a lot of painting recently in Campbellford, some of it wanted and some not.
First, the good news. The municipality recently adopted a policy on wall murals for businesses in our communities. D’s Modern Caribbean Cuisine, owned and operated by Dawn Fryer, was the first business to jump at the idea.
D’s Modern restaurant is located on Front Street North but in recent summers has added a backyard patio that can be accessed via an alleyway. Now, that alleyway has a bright, attractive mural to show you the way to the outdoor seating.
The mural was done by Lindsay Allison C. It cost $8,500, plus tax, with $4,250 covered by the Community Improvement Plan, a municipal fund that businesses can use to spruce up their exteriors and add new signage.
Community Development Manager Kira Mees says other businesses have expressed an interest in adding murals and she hopes more are coming soon.
Second, is the bad painting news. On Saturday evening someone defaced the walls of the Kennedy Park Skatepark. Aging skater Ken Tizzard, who has found a new lease on skating life at the park, posted photos of the mess on Facebook and urged a cleanup.
He quickly got action.
On Monday, Waterpro Mobile Wash & Bulk Water answered his plea with a stream of water that cleaned things up and got them almost back to as good as new. Waterpro posted a reel on Facebook that shows the cleanup action. Let’s hope they don’t have to do it again.
