Mud, rain, lilacs and a good time
Warkworth crowd enjoys blooms, scenery, food, music, and crafts
Day one of the Warkworth Lilac Festival attracted visitors from far and wide, despite the occasional shower that turned sections of the Millennium Lilac Trail into mud.
Many smart visitors and plant lovers came prepared with rubber boots and umbrellas. But chunks of the day also turned sunny.
The 13th annual lilac festival features 83 varieties of lilacs on the walking trail beside fast-flowing Percy Creek. There are probably 83 different fragrances, but I’m no judge of that.
The festival continues on Sunday. More details here. There was also lots of action on Main Street and the restaurants were busy.
Curling club gets a facelift
I stopped by the Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club on Friday to see the progress that a group of volunteers has had installing wood along the walls of the curling area and painting the entire place from top to bottom.
Full disclosure: I’m a member of the club and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product once all the hammering and painting is completed.
It will be a brighter, more attractive space for curlers, corn-hole players, and the brides, grooms and groups who rent the space.
