Hospital happy to get your Fordbucks
Foundation raises almost $30,000 from donations of $200 cheques
The campaign to encourage Trent Hills residents to donate their $200 Fordbucks to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised almost $30,000 and is hoping for more.
“We have had 146 x $200 dollar gifts which have funded the purchase of three new stretchers for the CMH Emergency Department and we are 65% of the way to funding a fourth one,” says John Russell, executive director of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation.
“We had a generous donor come in late last Friday and make a gift of $8,000 in memory of his late mother and fund the full purchase of a new stretcher,” he says.
In a story on Jan. 31, I suggested readers who could afford it should take their $200 from the Ford government and donate it to the hospital. Ford has refused to support a new facility here, claiming provincial poverty, but has found billions to fund his $200 vote-buying program, to get beer into the Circle K, and for a parking lot so rich people can get pampered in a waterfront spa. It’s clear lack of money is not the reason that the Conservatives have not supported a new hospital.

“Almost half of the gifts that have come in have been from first time donors to the CMH Foundation,” Russell says. “This is wonderful! We have personally spoken to each of the donors to thank them for their support.”
The foundation is also running the latest edition of its popular Catch the Ace contest.

The CMH Foundation Catch the Ace Progressive Minimum Jackpot for Week #2 is at least $12,049. If you catch the ace this week the total prize money is an estimated $15,000!
