Fly-by highlights Remembrance Day service
Hundreds attended the service at Campbellford's cenotaph, on the ground and in the sky
A lumbering aircraft was the highlight of the Remembrance Day service at Campbellford’s cenotaph.
Hundreds of people, from school kids to seniors who were Second World War veterans, attended the service on Monday, Nov. 11. Several dozen wreaths were placed in memory of those who were killed in service. Some wreaths were donated by local businesses, while others had a more personal connection as families remembered their missing ancestors, parents and siblings.
The weather was grey and blustery, but the rain held off until later in the afternoon.
Below are a few pictures to give an idea of the scene. One photo shows a house across the river from the cenotaph. It has a message painted on the back wall — Foxtrot Juliet Tango. At first I wondered what the initials FJT were meant to stand for. Then, I realized this house is one that has rude anti-Trudeau flags and signs on its Front Street side. So the penny dropped.
All I can say is that I have no intention of voting for the guy, but this sort of foul language reduces the level of our life and political discourse. Free speech is an important part of my life, but I don’t have to like what others say and I can wish they didn’t make it so intrusive and public.
