First inductees announced for Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour
Eight individuals, three teams, and one service group will be celebrated at new recreation complex
After several years of effort by an advisory committee, the first inductees for the Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour have been announced.
Jim Peeling of the Campbellford-Seymour Heritage Society spearheaded the project and led the committee, which had members from all three communities in the municipality.
The Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour will be located at the new Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre and there are plans to have kiosks with the names at the Warkworth Arena and the Hastings Field House, Peeling said.
The Trent Hills Sports Wall of Honour inductees are:
-- Bryce Allen from Warkworth (Builders Category), for spearheading fundraising for building of the current Warkworth Arena.
-- Dit Clapper from Hastings (Player Category), for his NHL career. He played 20 years and is a member of the Hockey Hall Of Fame.
-- Randy Fife from Hastings (Player Category), for his achievements in fastball and hockey.
-- Jim Morrow from Hastings (Player and Builder Categories), for his achievements in hockey.
-- Kyle Pettey from Campbellford (Player Category), for his numerous medals and achievements in paralympic competition.
-- Doug Rowe from Warkworth (Builders Category), for his work behind the scenes supporting sports in Warkworth.
-- Gary Torrance from Campbellford (Builders Category), for his work in coaching, managing and umpiring in fastball and hockey.
-- Cassie Turner from Campbellford (Player and Coach Categories), for her national and international achievements in women's hockey.
-- The Warkworth Kinsmen and Kinettes (Historical Category), for their support of fundraising for the Warkworth Arena.
-- The 1948 Hastings Midget E Champions, the 1972 Warkworth Hockey Juveniles and the 1973 Campbellford Midgets Fastball Team, all for winning Provincial Championships.
