Crowd enjoys Tizzard's music event
Second annual Escape the Family event at Be My Guest Restaurant sells out
It was standing room only on Wednesday night at the Be My Guest restaurant for live music by Ken Tizzard and Music for Goats and their friends Jane Archer and Dave Mowat.
Ken promoted the night as an Escape the Family chance to get out of the house and relax during the busy period between Christmas and New Years.
Justin Cooper of Belleville kicked things off with a lively opening set that included covers of everyone from Neil Diamond to Johnny Cash and a new song written by Cooper’s 15-year-old son, just to spice things up. Like many young teens, he’s thinking and writing about young women and all the things they can do while wearing their boots.
During the first set by Ken and his band they were joined by Jane Archer for a couple of songs. She also noted that the annual wrap up from Spotify showed that her music by Jane Archer and the Reactionaries continues to build a strong audience with young people around the world.
Archer said the biggest demographic listening to her music on Spotify, from 150 countries this year, was the 18-35 age group, which is interesting since the music that her group plays on its 2018 album The Great Atomic Power is anti-war material.
In their second set, Ken and his group were joined by Alderville blues artist Dave Mowat who sang and played a few songs on the harmonica. He also promoted his new CD Crooked Road that has just been released. It was produced at Jimmy Bowskill’s Ganaraska Recording Co. in Cobourg and includes Steve Marriner on drums, Terry Wilkins, stand-up bass, Jesse O’Brien, piano, Clayton Yates on guitar, and Mowat on harmonica and vocals.
