Crime writer here for library chat
Rotenberg to discuss One Minute More, latest in his Ari Greene series
One of Canada’s top crime thriller writers, Robert Rotenberg, is coming to Campbellford next Monday to chat about his books and his approach to writing.
He’s a friend, so I’ll call him Bobby, will be at the Campbellford branch of Trent Hills Library at 6 p.m. on May 12 to discuss One Minute More the latest and eighth in his series of Ari Green books.
I’ll be in conversation with Bobby and looking to talk about the importance of Canadian places in his books and about all the research that goes into the work.
When Old City Hall, the first in the series, was published in 2009 it was hailed for the authentic way it captured life in Toronto. Since then, he’s dug deeper into Toronto and written tales about a Ford-like mayor, one clearly based on the Just Desserts shooting, and another about homelessness in the city.
I have a personal interest in One Minute More since it starts in my hometown of Stanstead, Quebec, and highlights the unusual, shared roadway on which the centreline is the border with the U.S.
My father worked as a tool-and-die maker for several years in a factory that straddled the border as the Tomifobia River, which marked the line, flows under the factory.
Bobby also teaches writing so we can talk about the rigorous approach he encourages authors to use that involves repeatedly rewriting and honing sentences to remove extraneous words and ideas.
We’ll certainly make time for Bobby to answer your questions and to sign copies of his books.
You can read all Trent Hills News stories anytime on the website.
Looking forward to an entertaining and informative session
