County appoints interim CAO
Search begins for a permanent replacement following mysterious staff move
Northumberland County Council has appointed an interim Chief Administrative Officer to fill the position suddenly and mysteriously left vacant on Monday.
The county announced on Thursday that Glenn Dees, a county employee since 2009 who had recently been Director of Health and Human Services and overseeing the Golden Plough Lodge Long Term Care Home, will fill in until a new CAO is hired.
Jennifer Moore, a 17-year employee who had been CAO for a decade, left the job on Monday following a closed council meeting that was supposed to discuss cuts to the 2026 budget.
Instead, Warden Brian Ostrander announced that Moore was no longer a county employee and the budget will be discussed in the future.
On Wednesday, council met in private and apparently decided to hand Dees the reins.
Council is looking to cut several million dollars from the proposed budget in order to hold a tax increase to 5 per cent.
The mayors of Cobourg and Port Hope have expressed surprise about the estimated $56 million cost of a new bridge in Campbellford and its impact on taxes.
