Classes end, construction season begins
School signs mark start of almost $1 million in renovations in Trent Hills
There are signs of changes coming at three schools in Trent Hills.
No, not something in the air, or rumours in the hallways, or staff rooms, literal signs on the outside walls announcing work will soon start at Hillcrest Public School, Hastings Public School, and Campbellford District High School.
I saw the signs, which give no details about what’s to be done inside, and wondered what was going on. So, I asked and now I can tell you.
This summer the three schools will undergo $979,707 in renovations. The largest amount will be spent at Hillcrest, where $514,907 will go to refresh three classrooms, said Sonia Paull, Senior Manager, Communications and Community Outreach, at the school board.
In Hastings, $171,000 will be spent on a barrier-free washroom, a calming room, and exhaust and air duct upgrades. Meanwhile, the high school will get cafeteria and stage improvements valued at $293,800.
There is work planned at many Kawartha Pine Ridge schools this summer. For example, Norwood District High School will be spiffed up with $1.7 million in spending on washrooms, hallways, lighting, and the gym.
The signs by the province say the work is part of its $16 billion plan to build and renew schools.
Now, if only we could get a sign for a new hospital.
