The smiling audience left Friday night’s Songs of Winter concert by the Village Voices to find the weather outside was getting frightful and the weather gods had let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
But the show inside had indeed been delightful as music director Barb Hobart led the community choir through a series of wintry songs both traditional and new including a couple with a cappella arrangements that highlighted the talent of the singers.
But as usual with this choir, there were a lot of hijinks and crowd involvement, including some excellent “volunteers” who got on stage to demonstrate their skills at air guitar.
A second performance is scheduled for today (Saturday, Jan. 13) at 3 p.m. at St. John’s United Church on Bridge Street.
Shriners hockey fundraiser sells out
Well, I was going to tell you how to get tickets to be in a private box at Peterborough Memorial Centre to watch Campbellford’s own Carson Campbell and his Kitchener Rangers take on the Petes.
But it turns out all tickets have been sold by the Trent Valley Shiners for their Family Day Feb. 19 OHL hockey game fundraiser. The proceeds are going to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal.
The Shriners will host a full Baker Tilley box at the Peterborough Memorial Centre to watch the Peterborough Petes play the Kitchener Rangers and Carson Campbell, grandson of Shriner Les Campbell. Defenceman Campbell was traded to the Rangers by the Sarnia Sting in September.
