I don’t usually write about community events since I can’t track them all and most groups do an excellent job of reaching out to their audiences on Facebook.
I can’t use Facebook because my stories are flagged as news, and it won’t allow Canadian news. That’s a whole other story and fight that is too long and boring to go over. But I personally don’t like to use Facebook anyway because I think the company has done a lot of bad things and will never change.
Which is a long-winded way to say, that today I am going to highlight a couple local events and activities that I’m sure you can find on Facebook, but I wanted to let my readers know about them too.
First off, the Campbellford Friends of the Library group will be holding their annual book sale on Saturday, June 14 from 9 till noon.
If you have books that you’d like to donate, you can drop them off at the main desk of the branch.
It’s always a great sale and I usually leave with a couple bags of books. Money raised will be used to purchase large print books for the Trent Hills Library. The Warkworth branch held its book sale during the Lilac Festival with a tent on main street and lots of books on offer.
FYI, the Friends of the Hastings Library group has a Facebook page that is providing interesting library facts every Friday. The Hastings branch has become very busy in recent months since it took over the entire building.
We’re lucky to have three thriving branches that provide a wide range of activities for all ages. You can check out the main website or their Facebook pages.
YMCA summer camps at Sunny Life Centre
The YMCA is holding summer camps for kids from 5 to 12 at the Sunny Life Recreation & Wellness Centre starting June 30 and running until Aug. 29.
A brochure offers more details and explains how to register. In addition to daily sessions, the YMCA offers weekly outdoor-focused camps or specialty camps like a sports camp, junior lifeguard camp, or junior firefighter camp, in conjunction with the Trent Hills Fire Department.
Daily fees are $42 a day per child for Y members and $44 for non-members. The weeklong specialty camps are $220 for members and $250 for non-members.
You can read all Trent Hills News stories on my website here.
